Why Loop Church?

From small groups that study scripture, do neighborhood tours, discuss the interplay between architecture, the built environment, and the quality of urban life to exploring the role of the church in a 21st century global city, Loop Church is a community that continually seeks to understand our place and role in this ever changing world. We assume God is present and at work in our communities - we don't 'bring God to the city' - and it is our task to discover where God is active and get in step with that activity. We assume what's true about our city is probably true about you as well.

In a city caricaturized as a place where dead people vote, we like G.K. Chesterton's angle: 'the democracy of the dead.' The church is one place where 'dead people' vote. Our 'dead people' come from the Reformed tradition. Our rooted identity means we transcend hip/cutting edge vs. conservative: this world vs. 'other worldly': culture wars vs. culture deniers. We take scripture seriously, and we do real science and produce good art. One motto from the Reformed tradition is Semper Reformande;  always reforming. We'd be honored to have you join us in that quest.

Perhaps you have read The Shack. It's been on the NY Times bestseller list for most of the summer. Maybe you found it inspiring, maybe hokey; maybe wildly inspired, maybe formulaic and rote. Either way, it's likely that it helped you consider God from a different angle. God didn't change, but your understanding of God grew. It's likely you'll experience Loop Christian Ministries in the same way.

After 21 years in the South Loop, we're grateful for our new location at 1550 S. State. We worship there on Sunday at 10:00 a.m. We welcome you to join us.  Browse the website for other activities.
